When the Scouts of 2nd Newbury Scout Troop heard about the photography competition at Newbury Building Society, they were anxious to get involved.
The Scouts set about discussing what sort of images would be suitable.  Between them, they decided on the theme of shaking hands.  The troop lined up, and shook hands using the Scout handshake which is done using the left hand.  Scouts shake hands with their left hands, as the left arm is closest to the heart signifying friendship.  Baden Powel also observed that when warriors shake hands with their left hands, they have to first lay down their shields - a symbol of trust and respect.
The Scouts had fun taking the photographs and were proud to receive second place.
They are looking forward to putting their prize money (£100) towards a projector which they can use at their weekly meetings.
